Shell Booties

Size: 0-3 months

Use size "H" needle and baby yarn or simply soft yarn.

(The first six rows of these booties are off of Estelle Voelker's pattern "Easy Baby Booties".)

Beginning of "Easy Baby Booties" by Estelle Voelker
Round 1: With MC yarn, ch 9, 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in each of next 5 chs, dc in next ch, 5 dc in last ch, working on opposite side of foundation ch, dc in nexxt ch, hdc in each of next 5 chs, 2 sc in last ch, join in first sc. 22 sts

Round 2: Ch 2, 2 hdc in next st, hdc in each of next 7 sts, 2 hdc in each of next 5 sts, hdc in each of next 7 sts, 2 hdc in next st, join in 2nd ch of beg ch-2, turn. 29 sts

Round 3: Ch 1, sc in same st as beg ch-1, 2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 10 sts, 2 sc in each of next 6 sts, sc in each of next 10 sts, 2 sc in next st, join in first sc. 37 sc

Round 4: Working in front lps, ch 1, sc in same st as beg ch-1, sc in each st around, join in beg sc, turn. 37 sts

Round 5: Ch 2, hdc in each of next 12 sts, [dc dec in next 2 sts] 6 times, hdc in each of next 12 sts, join in 2nd ch of beg ch-2. 31 sts

Round 6: Ch 2, hdc in each of next 9 sts, [dc dec in next 2 sts] 6 times, hdc in each of next 9 sts, join in 2nd ch of beg ch-2. 25 sts

The rest of the pattern are my modifications for the finishing of the baby booties:
Round 7: Ch 1, sc 8, sc dec 5 times, sc 7. 20 sts

Round 8: sc around. (decrease over last two stitches to end up with 19 sc instead of 20 sc. 19 sc

Round 9-13: Shell stitch around. 19 sts
(When you start with a sc, you will also end with a sc. To keep the pattern even, begin each row that starts with a shell by having a 3 dc shell in beginning instead of the normal 5 dc shell. End those rounds with a 3 dc shell instead of a 5 dc shell also.)

Round 14: hdc around. 19 hdc Fasten off.

In contrasting color, slst around. 19 slst

Bow:
ch 10,

Rows 1-3: sc across. 9 sc. Fasten off leaving a long enough string to wrap around middle of bow and weave around ankle of bootie.

Finish the bootie by tucking in string on bow to middle of bow and wrapping around 10 times. Tie and knot. Place bow in center of ankle and weave string around ankle. Tack down the bow and finish off.
